S apartment is a project that I designed for my exboyfriend after he was really fascinated with the work I did for my previous clients. It is half of the second floor of a 2-storey house. The apartment was big enough but it was hard to sense that as there were too many small rooms separated with corridors and walls. So my main goal was to fix that by making at least a descent and spacious living room and also to enlarge the bathroom as much as possible. There were no restrictions on the budget at first ,so we chose a really nice materials for the floors and for the bathroom.
Consequently the owner decided that the office where we also situated the laundry machine and the dryer were not of a great importance for him and we had this part of the apartment executed at the end with low-budget.
There are a lot of items which were custom made for the apartment – the built-in niches next to the TV, the modular table, the printed curtains and pillows, the concrete flower pot, the lamps , the sticker on the wall – these were all designed by me in order to have coherence in this faceted design.
The story behind the sticker on the wall is that we really wanted to have a wall with exposed bricks but then we found out that there used to be a window which was stuffed with different bricks, so this is how we end up adding that white part on the wall and I designed a sticker especially for it.
Then the owner wanted bricks in his bedroom too, so I proposed a different approach – to have a colored bricks that resemble of a pixilated sunset so that every morning when he wakes up he can see that bright colors in front of him. He totally loved the idea, and let me tell you – it wasn’t easy to accomplish. The bricks were definitely not put in a straight way and it was really hard to follow the execution plan. Mixing the colors was also a great challenge. Still, in 2 weeks time I was ready with the painting.
Every piece of furniture there is custom made.
The budget in total is around 45000 euro, which includes the refurbishment , the materials and the production of the custom furniture.
